HOW TO UNCLOG A DRAIN WITH A PLUNGER
Need help unblocking a clogged drain? Before reaching for the drain cleaner, try a plunger - it’s a low cost and environmentally friendly option. Chamberlains will show you how to unclog a drain like a pro.

Step 1
Start by removing the plug.

Step 2
Block the overflow hole with a wet cloth. By doing this you are creating a vacuum which makes plunging a lot more effective.
Reminder
Avoid plunging a drain after using a hazardous chemical. If you do so, run water down the drain first wash away any chemical residue. Always wear safety glasses.

Step 3
Next, create a tight seal by firmly placing the plunger over the open drain. Fill the bath or sink so that the water reaches halfway up the plunger’s rubber cup.

Step 4
Pull the plunger up, then push down without breaking the seal. Repeat this push-pull action a number of times.

Step 5
Break the seal of the plunger with one final pull. If the water doesn’t drain, the debris is still blocking the drain. Try repeating steps 3 and 4.

Step 6
Still no luck using the plunger? Try using a plumber’s snake. If the water drains, the block is cleared and you should be able to remove the debris. If the drain is still blocked your next step is to get a good drain cleaner.
